I Love Summer Music Festivals

Posted by Ryan on August 21st, 2008

In two weeks, my girlfriend and I went to two Chicago music festivals: Pitchfork Music Festival and Lollapalooza. Though the smaller festival, Pitchfork was the crème brûlée of people watching. Nerd couture and irony were in full effect. If they remake Revenge of the Nerds today, instead of intelligent college students forming a fraternity, it will be Pitchfork writers forming an Obama campaign office. And instead of jocks being the bad guys, it will be Log Cabin Republicans. Gay rich dudes are the new jocks. My favorite concert goer, however, was at Lollapalooza. He had Regret tattooed on the back of his neck [see above photo]. Never has a tattoo uttered a more appropriate sentiment. I bet he has Irony For Life tattooed on his stomach.

Conducted way back in November 2004

“The point where they hit you, you’ve realized you’ve really crossed that line. The other night [while doing standup], this woman would not stop talking. I told her to shut up. I was drinking water and she said, ‘Keep drinking that water.’ I said, ‘I’m going to keep drinking this water until I piss in your open mouth.’

“[Her table] got up to leave and I said, ‘I’m just going to take my act out with you into the street, because now you’ve ruined it and now you’re going to hear it all the way home.’

“I started to follow them out of the club, and this woman turned around and started choking me. I just started laughing.”

The first year Ron and I started Modest Proposal, he gave me this as part of my “Christmas present.” He ripped it out of an old Spider-Man comic book.

Now Ron wishes he would have written, “The only fag I suck on . . . ” That would have taken the double entendre to the next level and totally mind-fucked me. Oh, how young and ignorant we were.

Found Poetry 1

Back in college, I used to work at a the library on campus. One day I found a packet stuffed in a herculean medical reference book. This was Arizona State University . . . so the medical books were rarely used. There was no telling how long the packet had been there, but it had been typed on a typewriter (the thing Jesus wrote The Bible with). The packet contained ten pages of poetry about newborn infants. Most were written in first person from the perspective of an infant being born. Here’s a sample, I’ll post more later. Start with “Sandra.”
